Suspect building materials

Asbestos Testing

Testing of suspect building materials before they may be disturbed, or while a project is still being planned.

Asbestos was used in many building products, and existing materials can raise questions long after they were installed. Testing addresses those questions directly, on the materials that matter for the property in front of you.

Appearance alone cannot confirm whether a material contains asbestos. Materials that look similar may differ, which is why testing is generally considered before work that could disturb them.

Excel performs asbestos testing. Abatement, removal, and any corrective work are carried out by others.

When this testing may be relevant

  • Renovation, remodeling, demolition, or repair work is being planned in an existing building.
  • A material has been damaged or uncovered and its content is unknown.
  • A project scope needs material information before decisions are made.
  • Existing suspect materials need to be documented before a decision is made.

Questions this testing can address

  • Is asbestos present in the materials that were tested?
  • What result was recorded for each material tested?
  • What information was documented for the materials that were tested?

Available across five counties

This testing is available throughout Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County, Riverside County, and Ventura County. More detail is on the service areas page.
